How does Heaven view Governments, nations and political systems.
Even as we ponder on the election results of our nation. The Christian mindset is asking God a simple question.
How can God allow a Government come to power that does not honour him nor the church?
“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” – Romans 13:1
And he changeth the times and the seasons:
he removeth kings, and setteth up kings:
he giveth wisdom unto the wise,
and knowledge to them that know understanding:
He revealeth the deep and secret things:
he knoweth what is in the darkness,
and the light dwelleth with him. – Daniel 2:21:22
If we take the above two verses into context for our discussion sake. We see that the Bible is clear about authority. It says in Romans 13 that there is no authority except from God and those that exist have been instituted by God. Daniel 2 talks about the Lord changing times and seasons and removing kings and setting up Kings.
If Romans 13 is applicable for todays situation in India then the obvious question is how can God allow a government that does not know nor honor Him to come to power?
Genesis 1:28 “and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. –
Not everything on earth is controlled by God. God is in control is one of Christianity’s lamest excuses when things do not go their way. We have been given dominion and authority on earth. When we don’t exercise that dominion and authority in alignment with the purposes of Heaven we face situations like what we are in today.
Between God’s authority in Heaven and Man’s dominion on earth there is intercession and prayer.
He says in Ezekiel 22:30- “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one”
If God can do everything by himself why would he look for someone among them who build the wall and stand in the gap?
When a man or woman stands in the gap there are divine transactions that take place between heaven and earth. The Church has failed to stand in the gap because we have been busy with our own agendas.
So the answer lies in our prayer and intercession that we have released into the spiritual realm for governments and leaders to come to power.
Have we really stood in the gap between God and the people who voted for the government to come to power. Because no one stood in the gap.
How does government and democracy fit into this scenario?
A democracy, as we define it, is essentially a human (and humanistic) government with its roots in the very pagan Greek and Roman civilizations. Anything human in origin is by definition sinful and corrupt. It eventually decays and crumbles from within, because of its very essence. Simply put, a government by people is not led by God.
Democracy is quintessentially defined as “a government of the people, by the people and for the
people.” You can travel the entire globe and you will not find a single government that does not fit this definition. All earthly governments have been invented by people, they are run by people and are established to serve, you guessed it, people. They only differ in how many ‘people’s’ interests are actually represented.
God has given this nation what its people have asked for.
But when they said, “Give us a king to judge us,” their demand was displeasing in the sight of Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. 7 And the LORD said to Samuel,“Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their king. 8They are doing to you just as they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking Me and serving other gods.…
This happened at a time when Samuel was one of the greatest intercessor and prophet over the nation of Israel. But yet he was rejected and the Lord was rejected. They wanted a king to judge them.
When a nation forsakes God and serves other Gods. When the church forsakes the presence of God and relies on its own human wisdom and practicality to build the church. We can expect principalities and powers of darkness take control of governments and nations.
But we have hope. God in History has raised up leaders and prophets to counter the move of the enemy and the power of the flesh. Elijah rose up and declared the voice of God over a wicked regime in Ahab and Jezebel. Daniel walked in wisdom and skill and demonstrated the power of God to a heathen King. Jospeh was a father to pharaoh in Egypt during the famine crisis.
Its time for the church to rise up with a new revelation. We have to rise up in dominion and authority. We can bring change and transformation in our nation through what has been vested in us.
May the coming years the church rise up prophetically and apostolic-ally and have dominion in the realm of governmental leadership. May the Church enter the corridors of power like Jospeh entered the corridors of pharaoh and ruled over them and became a father.
This post is not written with the view to demean the church in any way. But to bring light and revelation in a time such as this where we have some wisdom and understanding.
